Tabou Combo, a history of delivering great Haitian music
Tabou Combo has been the leading Konpa band in Haiti for over three decades. They began as Los Incognitos of Pétionville in 1968, rapidly achieving their first taste of success, Haiti Radio's "Best Musical Group of the Year" award.
At the end of 1970, they relocated to New York, as Tabou Combo, and with a new band head, Jean-Claude Jean. It was there their career took off, resulting in fans on all major continents of the globe. more »

Gazman Pierre (Couleur) of Disip honored recently by Miami County Commissioner Jean Monestime
Gazman Pierre, also known as Gasman Pierre, was a Haitian artist. He was born on 22nd August in Gonaives. Interestingly, Gazman loved football and had a vision of being a football player but his dream changed when he got a knee injury. This made him to turn to music which was his second vision.

His family moved to United State in 1980. Despite his mother being against music as a career, Gazman began singing as a solo singer. In 1992 he joined a group known as Yeah Bah and launched an album by the name of An nou fe'l a de". He then joined Zenglen Plus and changed its name to D'Zine. D'Zine recorded many songs like Haiti, Lavi en exile and Deal With It. D'Zine had some conflict and Gazman Pierre decided to leave. more »

Les Difficiles de Petion-Ville Morphs into D.P. Express Mini-Jazz Band
The Mini-Jazz movement, which began in 1964, was an evolving form of Kompa, Haiti's pop-dance music. What defined the music of Les Difficiles de Petion-Ville that was a popular Mini-Jazz band was the use of lead- and rhythm electric guitars and electric bass. The advent of this more modern sound led to a burgeoning music scene in the neighborhoods surrounding Port-au-Prince.
One of the new Mini-Jazz Kompa bands to emerge was Les Difficiles de Pétion-Ville. They were among a group of similar bands, like Les Shleu Shleu and Tabou Combo, who captured the essence of this new form of Kompa. Les Difficiles de Pétion-Ville released an impressive series of albums, whose tracks of up-tempo and down-tempo selections produced a variety of sounds, depending on the sound-board engineering choices. more »

Video - Protest against Michel Martelly's Government in Port-au-Prince
The Haitian population took to the streets on Sunday, September 30, 2012 to protest against the current government of Michel Martelly. After the Cities of Les Cayes, Cap-Haitian and other regions, this past Sunday was the turn of the people in the Haitian Capital Port-au-Prince to show their frustration about the current situation.
Several thousands of people were marching around the National Palace on Sunday, September 30, 2012 to protest against the high cost of living. Many demanded that the government leave office. Current Haitian Senator Moise Jean-Charles arrived on a horse to take part of the manifestation. more »

Ti-Paris, the father of Haiti Troubadour music
Ti-Paris, known as the Father of Haitian twobadou music, brings a simplicity and accessibility to his art.
With just his voice, guitar, pair of maracas, and an occasional back-up vocal, he succeeds in creating an intimacy between himself and the listener. It is as if he is sitting in your living room on a Haitian afternoon, strumming his guitar, at a casual family get-together.
Although Ti-Paris's discography is small, Haitians of an older generation revere him. They pass on his legacy, singing his songs to their children and grandchildren. more »

Lumane Casimir Biography
Lumane Casimir was born in 1917 in Gonaives. She was a talented musician who would write songs and play the guitar. She discovered her talent at an early age and started playing guitar. She was blessed with a good voice that left fans always anxious.
Lumane Casimir combined playing guitar and singing and performed in many places like Artibonite. The fact that she was a woman and would play guitar surprised many and made her get many fans. At the age of 13 years she got to meet Pianist Lina Mathon Blanchet who got interested in her performance. more »
