Lumane Casimir Biography

Lumane Casimir was born in 1917 in Gonaives. She was a talented musician who would write songs and play the guitar. She discovered her talent at an early age and started playing guitar. She was blessed with a good voice that left fans always anxious.

Lumane Casimir combined playing guitar and singing and performed in many places like Artibonite. The fact that she was a woman and would play guitar surprised many and made her get many fans. At the age of 13 years she got to meet Pianist Lina Mathon Blanchet who got interested in her performance.

Later she became a member of Legba choir which made her advance in her talent. Lumane really enjoyed music and looked at it as way of meeting new people. Her songs reflected cooperation between her and the environment with distress and hope. Lumane Casimir emphasizes on not giving up in life and criticized poor upbringing. Her music had principles of reality like giving the meaning of time, life sisterhood, faith, politics and arts. She became so famous because of her appreciation of her music.

Lumane Casimir even got a chance to perform as the main guest artist in Jazz des Jeunes, and ElSaieh. She developed a relationship with Jazz des Jeunes and would accompany them to perform in Luanne. During the performance in Luanne she met various drum players like Tiroro, Jean Remy and Alphonse cimber.

Casimir has many songs under her belt like Larivye mwen te ye and Lumanne pa bel fanm. Lumane means happiness, being saved from sins and a better tomorrow.
