We have at. Our president, Michel Martelly delivering his speech at the 67th Ordinary Session of United Nations General Assembly. This took place on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. This is the video of the entire speech.

In his speech, Mr. Michel Martelly expressed the need for the United Nations to be more involved in the world in facilitating international dialogue. He pointed to the fact that this is the only way to obtain a world peace.

The United Nations General Assembly is the main deliberative organ of the United Nations and the and the only one in which all member nations have equal representation.

The General Assembly is quite powerful. It oversees the budget of the United Nations, appoints non-permanent members to the Security Council, receives reports from other parts of the United Nations and makes recommendations in Resolutions.

The General Assembly meets in its yearly sessions. The dates are usually from September until all issues are addressed.

The United Nations General Assembly can reconvene at any time during the year for special and emergency special sessions.

Voting in the General Assembly are conducted on important issues and passed based on a two-thirds majority of those present and voting.

The assembly usually votes on matters such as recommendations on peace and security; election of members to organs; admission, suspension, and expulsion of members; budgetary matters.

Other questions are decided by majority vote. Each member country has one vote.
