International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and Haiti Olympic sports complex

The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach were in Haiti and present for the inauguration of Haiti first Haiti Olympic sports complex. The multipurpose center was donated by the International Olympic Committee following the 2010 earthquake.

This new Sport complex located in Cite Soleil is equipped with a Basketball court, outdoor handball, rooms for boxing and table tennis.

There were several messages addressed to the youth of Haiti. President Thomas Bach reminded the young people of Haiti that sports stands for social cohesion, self confidence, fair play and for the future of youth.

The Haitian President Michel Martelly also took the opportunity to say a few words as well. According to the Haitian president, while the Haiti Olympic sports complex is an opportunity for Haiti's youth to discover their talents, it's an important part of helping form individuals. That it is important for children to play with one another.

The president as usually took the opportunity to score some political points as well. He said that in 30 years, no Haitian past government had built a sports complex in Haiti. He pointed out that his government has already restored 12, mostly soccer stadiums.

Other personalities also present at the event were Inter-American Development Bank President Luis Albeto Moreno.

Haiti Olympic sports complex is located on the outskirts of the capital, near Canaan slum.
