About ten years ago, Dumarsais Mécène Simeus or Dumas, the most successful and learned black businessman in the U.S,, returned to Haiti to contest in the 2005 presidential elections. Because, as per his statement, he wanted to create a Haiti with full of opportunity where people will feel proud to stay. He wanted a Haiti where an average guy will be equipped with investable funds. However, his status as a dual national became a challenge. His acceptance as a presidential candidate was unacceptable as per the facts of Article 135 which states that a presidential candidate must "be a native-born Haitian and never have renounced Haitian nationality and have resided in the country for five consecutive years before the election." It further prohibits a run for the presidency, or to be named prime minister, head of the government to dual-nationals. It also prohibits dual-nationals from being police chief or head of the Supreme Court.
