President Martelly and Opposition Politicians Fight over the Electoral Law

Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe has offered his resignation to President Martelly amidst outbursts of violence, regarding the held-up elections, postponed since 2011.

The crux of the delayed elections is an electoral law the opposition says would permit a biased election to take place that would support government interests to the detriment of their own. The government claims anti-government politicians are obstructing the process so they can stay in power longer.
