Jacmel Kanaval 2016, loosing its magic

Keeping up the carnival tradition in Jacmel during this current political crisis is a big problem. The carnival in Jacmel is one of the most beautiful traditional customs in Haiti. Masks of paper mache including the parades are the big art form in Jacmel. It is the home to both a regional and a Haitian National Carnival celebration. It is the place where you can watch legendary artworks from local artists or enjoy the amazing Haitian cuisine, or simply visit legendary historic towns and a variety of charming and natural beauty. On Sunday, January 31, 2016, tens of thousands of revelers had attended the Carnival of Jacmel under the latest theme "Jacmel Pou Tout Tan Gen Tan". About 2,200 masked actors, 10 walking bands and 5 bands were a part of the program. On Saturday, the day before, Dithny Joan Raton, the Minister of Culture, participated in the 10th edition of the "Poetic cocktail of carnival" of Jacmel. Carnival in Haiti is a healthy opium dose for the masses.
