The European Union was originally created to end the bloody wars between neighbours, which culminated in the Second World War
By 1950, European countries started collaborating economically and politically in order to secure lasting peace.At the beginning the group consisted of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands
By December, 2009, the Treaty of Lisbon was ratified. It provides modern institutions and more efficient working methods for the EU Members.
