A few pictures capturing the passage of Tropical storm Isaac in Haiti

The visit of the tropical storm Isaac in Haiti was definitely not welcome because we were not prepared. Haiti's Office of Civil Protection reported that at least seven people were killed as result of the storm, including a young man who died in a landslide in DonDon, in northern Haiti. The other people who died include a 10-year-old girl in Thomazeau and a community north of Port-au-Prince. Also, the Haitian government reported that a 7-year-old boy was electrocuted in the Artibonite Valley in Northwest Haiti, and United Nations police said that a woman died in Jacmel when a tree fell on her.

The city of Jacmel was not avoid from tropical storm Isaac. As a matter of fact, the historic city was severely hit as it was cut off by rivers and partially collapsed roads." In many areas of the city, residents waded through knee-high water.

All the flooding in Haiti as a result of tropical storm Isaac is likely to be felt long after the passage of the storm. There is a large chance that the cholera epidemic will increase among the population that was flooded.

The Office of Civil Protection attempted to evacuate many people in areas considered high risk for flooding and reported to have evacuated over 5,000 people. Many people had refused to move out of their home, fearing thieves would steal their meager possessions.
