Major corruption allegation by Candidate for Deputation, Mr. Gerald Jean, toward members of CEP and BCEN

In Haiti, corruption builds up in every rebuilding effort. The latest corruption has threatened the credibility of the recent election. Gerald Jean, a candidate for lower chamber of Deputy from Ferrier/Perches has talked at several radio programs that he had paid more than $25,000 to a judge, electoral adviser and CEP member Yolette Mengual ($15,000 in cash and balance through two bank slips) to obtain a decision in his favor from the National Office of Electoral Litigation (BCEN). Yolette Mengual represents the women's sector in Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). Several other candidates have also talked to the airwaves on Wednesday (December 16, 2015) about how they were asked to pay thousands of dollars in bribes to the electoral court judges and members of the beleaguered nine-member CEP for winning a spot in the 50th Legislature. Former Senate president, Simon Dieuseul Desras has also stated the names of three BCEN judges (Pierre Widly Charles, Jugnace Pierre and Frantz Drice) who were involved in this corruption. He has also accused two CEP members on same charges, Vijonet Demero (representing reformed worship sector) and Lourdes Edith Joseph (representing the trade union sector).
