Welcome to Les Cayes and Haiti South

Here is a video presentation of one of the most beautiful areas in Haiti, the South region of the island and Les Cayes.

Les Cayes has great potential as a tourist destination. The 'Gelée Beach' with its white sand and great restaurants, is the longest and most visited beach in Haiti. The restaurants serve some typical popular Haitian dishes like grilled-fish, lobsters, tonm-tonm and grilled-conch. They host grand Compas Band Festival around middle of August. 'Le Jardin Botanique des Cayes' (in French) or the 'Botanical Garden of Les Cayes' is located in an area of 8 hectares in the 'Bergeau' at the northern entry point of the city.

Due to its isolation from the political turmoil of the country, it has remained an undisturbed active busy port, exporting coffee and sugar cane. It exports 250 tons of 'Vetiver' annually--the largest in the world. 'Vetiver' is a fragrant extract, an ingredient of perfume used in perfumery and aromatherapy. Its other minor export includes banana and timber.
