Roger Colas a Peerless Master of Song

Roger Colas a Peerless Master of Song

Roger Colas, a brilliant poet, singer, and painter, born on January 6, 1937, in Quartier Morin, Haiti, studied at Durand College, L'instruction Chretienne, and Lycee Philippe Guerrier, where he gave his first performance.

While continuing his studies at Lycee Petion of Port-au-Prince, Roger Colas made a decision to leave and become a pilot in the Haitian Air Force. During his military stint, he continued to perform and caught the attention of Pierre-Louis, founder of the group Septent, in 1955.

In a serendipitous act, Colas joined Septent, happy to be back where he belonged, as a singer with a mike in his hand. Roger was pivotal in transforming Septent into a globally-known group, using his talents as a poet and brilliance as a vocalist, to cast a spell on his audiences.

An accomplished teller of tales, he sang songs of reflection, concerning the purpose of life and what it means to be alive; songs like Fe Pam (kaporal), Pase Cheve, and Oublie-Moi. Roger Colas was a perfectionist, who honed his craft and sought new musical challenges, interpreting many singing styles and singers, such as Frank Sinatra.
