Orchestre Septentrional has stood the test of time

Several musical acts from Haiti have been doing so for the past thirty to sixty years and have actually been successful with their purpose for creating and performing music. One of the most notable of all is the Orchestre Septentrional.

Founded in Haiti in 1948 by Hulric Pierre-Louise, Orchestre Septentrional was behind the orchestra's distinct Cuban sound, as well as its Haitian musical elements which are common in Haitian Voodoo ceremonies. Despite the constant changing of musical era, Septen, like their fans call them, has stood the test of time by blending in popular culture's elements to their traditional sound.

There are currently about 14 to 19 members in Orchestre Septentrional, coming from different generations of Septen and vary in the musical instruments they play. Earlier this year, they toured different cities in the United States for their spring tour.

The renowned Haitian orchestra has been changing lives in the country through their music for the past sixty years, giving hope to the victims of political violence, natural disasters, and fatal diseases. Orchestre Septentrional, which had five generations of members, symbolizes the strength of Haiti and its people despite hindrances and tragedies.

Just as all hope seems to be gone, the music of Septen lifts the Haitian spirit to keep on fighting.
