Protest at Labadee As Royal Caribbean Freedom of the sea arrives
Here is actual footage of the protest on January 19 at Labadee by some Haitians as the Royal Caribbean was approaching with several hundred tourists.
On January 19, 2016, there was a political protest regarding the upcoming election in the port at Labadee, an idyllic 260 acre private destination which was leased by tyrant Baby Doc Duvalier in 1986 to the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line on the northern coast of the country. As per the news report, small boatloads of local protesters blocked the passages of the cruise passengers from disembarking the 'Freedom of the Seas'. The ship was able to dock at Labadee, but boatloads of protesters staged demonstration which caused the liner's captain to decide not to let passengers off the ship. Although, the protest was peaceful in nature, but the captain decided it could have a significant impact on the guests' enjoyment.
