The celebration of Gede or Ghede in the Haitian culture, Haitians head to the graveyards on the day of the Dead.

Two days of dancing and prayer marked the annual Voodoo Day of the Dead. Religious objects like candles, food offerings, and hot-peppered rum were part of the celebration. Brave Voodooists used their mouths to spray hot-peppered rum on tombstone crosses.

Fevered dancing occurred with sharp cries piercing the air. Some celebrated in a low-key manner, remembering departed love ones, and asking spirits to dispense favors and offer guidance.
