Central Plateau is the only landlocked department occupying the central region of the country of Haiti. It is the home of Lake Peligre, the second largest lake in Haiti. With its natural beauty it has the potentials to become a tourism haven.

The road to better quality of life and improved health care in Haiti's Central Plateau is a long, arduous one. After the, devastating earthquake of 2010, to ease the hardships of the affected people in Haiti's Central Plateau, USAID partner Mercy Corps provided immediate financial assistance through cash-for-work programs. They provided food vouchers and livelihood opportunities to 2,000 people per week in the area.
