Jocelerme Privert delivered his message following termination of mandate
« Previous · Next »Here is the message of President Jocelerme Privert delivered on June 15, 2015 or one day after his term of mandate was expired. Many people are asking whether or not he is at this point eligible to deliver this message as president of Haiti.
Perhaps Haiti has entered into another leaderless situation. The 120-day mandate of Privert's appointment, his installment as the provisional president on February 14, 2016, has expired on June 14, 2016 and has left Haiti in an uncertain power vacuum. The Chamber President Cholzer Chancy, acting as the head of the National Assembly, demanded that deputies and senators to vote on whether Privert should stay until the completion of country's interrupted elections early next year, or vacate the National palace. But, unfortunately, a National Assembly session failed to take place as per schedule on the day when Privert's tenure expired. Privert was installed as the interim president on February 14, 2016, to head a transitional government as per the February 5, 2016 accord, an agreement reached less than a day before President Michel Martelly was scheduled to step down.
