Festival Kompa Zouk Celebrates Kizomba dance and Haitian Culture

The Toronto Chamber of Commerce (TCC) is sponsoring the Fifth Annual Festival Kompa Zouk (FKZO), three days of exhibits, performances, and other activities beginning on Friday August 2nd, and ending on Sunday August 4th.

Three days before FKZO begins, TCC is holding a conference at Toronto City Hall to listen to Gabriel Osson and Jhonel Marvan discuss Haiti and Education. The event will run from three to seven p.m.

Sexiest Kizomba dance ever

The first day of FKZO, August 1st, artists will exhibit their artworks around the theme "Testimonials of Haiti". Harbourfront Centre and TCC are sponsoring this event. An opening reception will be held with drinks and hor'oeuvres, at the Marilyn Brewer Community Space. The exhibit will run until August 5th.

The second day, August 2nd, will be a day of music performances by reigning Kompa bands, among them Carimi and Karizma. Unleashed Legacies together with FKZO is sponsoring the event, to take place at Daniels Spectrum. Tickets are going for $35 if ordered ahead of time.

The final day of FKZO, August 3rd, the festival is free for everyone. More musical performances are slated for that day. Kompa groups playing include Tabou Combo, Stevy Mahy, Carimi, Mapou Ginen, and others to be announced. Dance lessons on Kizomba and Kizompa will be offered at no charge, as well as film presentations, Creole cooking demonstrations, soccer games, and special events for children.
